Do you want to make your love life and relationships better? Fitness can be the answer! Weight management company Jenny Craig, polled 2,000 people in relationships. They found that 3 out of 4 Americans pack on “love weight”.
In fact the average poll participant said they gained 36 pounds since they first started dating their current significant other. They gained 17 of those pounds in the first year alone! While we all want and enjoy the comfort and security of being in a committed relationship there is a danger in becoming too comfortable and complacent. Dr. Beth Donaldson, family physician and medical director at Copeman Healthcare Centre in Vancouver, BC gives this warning: “In the first year of a relationship what ends up happening is that people feel like they’ve found their mate, so they no longer have to try to attract the opposite sex….They probably let go a little bit more and pay less attention to calories, time at the gym, and they end up doing things together, on dates, for example, that involve a lot of calories.” There is good news though! Dr. Pamela Peeke, MPH, FACP, FACSM, chair of the Jenny Craig Science Advisory Board gives this advice: “Couples who exercise and eat healthy together are also nearly twice as likely to say they’re consistently happy in their relationship than those who don’t,” So when you love each other you can influence each other to be better than when you were apart. Isn’t that the whole point of love any way? Let love make you better not fatter. At Dark Horse sports we want you to have the best love ever!
