A common problem I see for many guys out there is that even if they never skip Bench Day they can’t seem to grow their chest to really fill in that nice t-shirt. But don’t lose heart (or chest ) 😉. You know that one t-shirt, hanging in your closet, just waiting for the day when you can fill it out the right way.
It may seem like no matter how many push-ups or how heavy you bench, you're just not getting the results you’re looking for. Even worse, your shoulders are starting to hurt! It’s so frustrating, to put in all that work in but not have it pay off. To fix this problem, I use 2 tips to maximize EVERY SINGLE REP of work you're putting in at the gym. 1. GO SLOW: Timing is everything! You really want to take your time, especially on the way down. By moving slowly it gives you more time to forge that mind-muscle connection. And the great thing is once you have this connection, you’ll be able to summon your chest activation at any time as you progress through your training, which will give you a great foundation to work towards future goals! Feel it to Grow it! 2. GO ACROSS: You want to pick exercises that match the way your body is designed. My favorite exercises for this are any type of Cable Crossovers, or Dumbell Presses done correctly. Part of the job of your chest muscles is to move your arm across your body. Not just pushing in a straight line in front of you. Make sure to have your arms are coming out to the SIDE, not down towards your hips (this actually works your shoulders more than your chest) By moving your elbows away from your body and keeping tension out to the sides, you’re actually working WITH the grain of your pectoral muscles, yes that's right, the muscle fibers run from the center of your chest out towards your underarms. By putting a load on them from the correct angle, you’ll feel more activation in your chest and begin to feel that burn! It’s pretty simple.
